Maybe's trip to the Vet

For those of you that don't know my dog Maybe, you don't know what a crazy dog she is. I love her more than anything, but sometimes I just don't know what to do with her. Today, she had to go to the vet for shots.

I was trying to think ahead and prevent any crazy problems she could create. I tied her leash to the back seat of the car so that she wouldn't be able to ride in the front seat on my lap. And then I took her out to the car on another leash so there was no chance of her escaping. She was more than willing to get in the car. It is her favorite thing. So the whole ride to the vet she barked at everything. She is a very vocal creature.

We pulled into the parking lot and I switched leashes to let her out of the car. She nearly pulled me over as she got out of the car. I finally got her inside and the second the door closed, she scratched and cried at the door. I persuaded her to come over to one of the waiting room benches where she sat on the ground crying and shaking. She is such a big baby. Emphasis on BIG. As I talked to her to calm her down, she hopped up on my lap and cried even louder. The vet techs were laughing hysterically at my adorable lap dog.

They finally called her name and I walked her over to the scale. She wouldn't walk, let alone get on the scale. So of course, I picked her up and stood on the scale. And then we weighed me and did the math. We went back to an exam room and sooner than the technician could pull out her clipboard, maybe was on my lap crying again.

I coaxed her onto the exam table when the vet came in but she wouldn't stop shaking. We were only in the room for 10 minutes but she made it seem like a lifetime. The vet said she is extremely healthy and that she is a good dog!

We walked out to the front to pay and I put her leash on the "Doggie Hitch" and pulled out my wallet. She started barking at a Rottweiler 2x her size and then they started to bark loudly at each other. I was so embarrassed that my dog thought she could take on a Rottweiler. I explained to Maybe that she was too little to beat up the other dog, but she didn't seem to mind. I finished paying and as I went to put my wallet in my purse, the owner of the Rottweiler, LET HER DOG OFF OF ITS LEASH. Not Joking. Maybe full on attacked the other dog when it got close enough. Right about at the time I started to pull my dog off of the other one, I got knocked off my feet and cut my back on the "Doggie Hitch."

I apologized for my dog as the dumb lady who let her dog off the leash walked off. I'm still in shock that I was the one that apologized. Who lets their dog off a leash in the vets office?????

Anyway, I got Maybe back in the car and started Driving home. I got to Main St. in Kaysville and decided to call my mom and fill her in. As I was talking to her, I looked in my rear view mirror to see that Maybe had rolled down her own window and was half way out of the car. I hung up the phone and pulled over as soon as I could. As I put my car in park, I looked in the mirror again to see a car pulling over behind me. I looked closer and saw Animal Control. I started to panic and wrestled Maybe back into the car and then got out and talked to the officer thinking that I was going to lose my dog for being irresponsible with the windows. He had a good laugh when he realized why I was panicked, and explained that he got a call for a raccoon. I was so relieved and made my way home. Maybe hopped out of the car, trotted inside and fell asleep. I guess her busy day wore her out...

Valentines Day

Out of all of the Holidays in the year, I think that Valentines Day is the worst holiday of all. You might be reading this and thinking I am either cynical or I am single. The truth is, I am neither of those things. I love having a reason to celebrate so holidays are naturally a great thing in my eyes. And I am dating the nicest boy in the whole world. So valentines day should be a holiday that I swoon over... But it isn't.

I guess I don't like valentines day because it is extremely commercial and I don't like people complaining about "single awareness day." But most of all, I don't like valentines day because I think if you really love someone, you don't need a holiday to tell them that. If you love someone, every day should feel like valentines day. Maybe I am naive and lucky in love, but to me Valentines day seems like a waste of a holiday. Presidents day is much better, at least we don't have school...

This year, I did end up celebrating but I was a week late for the official holiday. Ryan was busy Valentines Day weekend so we decided to postpone it. After we made that decision, I made a silly decision... I decided that this year whatever we gave each other had to be homemade (at least this way I wouldn't end up giving him a cheesy stuffed animal or a box of chocolates or any of the other gifts on the valentines day aisle at Target ).. This homemade Idea may have been my WORST IDEA EVER..
Of course Ryan had mine finished weeks before and I hadn't even figured out what to make him up until a few days before. The only thing that I had thought of was making him a homemade dinner, but my big mouth opened up and I suggested that we do this as a date... So once again, I was left with no idea.

Don't worry, everything worked out.
Maybe helped me make Ryan's present.


And then Ryan came over and we made the yummiest dinner EVER!
We had Caesar Salad, Breadsticks, Rice Pilaf, Stuffed chicken breast, Asparagus.
And For Dessert... (drumroll please)...
MOLTEN CHOCOLATE LAVA CAKE
INCREDIBLE!!!!



Ok... so i made it a few times last weekend...



It was a pretty great Valentines Day. We ended up eating dinner with not just each other, but my family. It was a great time. And i'm so happy that they were there to celebrate it too! Valentines day should be for everyone you love! :)

Thanks for the wonderful present Ryan. I Love it (i'll post pictures once i get it hung up in my room). I love you. Thanks for having a late Valentines Day with me, and my family!

Interior Design #2

So everyone already saw Assignment #1. So assignment #2 was to show an emotion using texture. Sound interesting enough...?

I decided to go with HOMESICK.

What better way to illustrate homesick than the WIZARD OF OZ?!?!


Well... Mom went to Home Depot and came home with all kinds of fun textures. So I used paint samples, felt, flowers, fake grass and a Shadow box to create my very own little version of the land of Oz.

The Couch

Super Bowl Sunday came and my family went to Rich's house for a way fun party! Well at least as fun as a football game can be... The food was GREAT though!

Anyway... I was bored before the game even started and no one would change the channel to watch the Puppy Bowl on Animal Planet. So I got on dad's Iphone to look at Ikea.com and I found a couch. It was PERFECT! I had been looking for some sort of chair for my apartment, but it is an apartment so space is an issue. Of course, who understands space better than Ikea.

Ikea wasn't far from Rich's house, and I was bored... So Megan and I hopped in the van and drove to Ikea. We looked around for a little bit, but we were crunched for time, so we pretty much rushed the shopping. They only had 2 couches left! And I got one! yay hooray!!!

So the couch sat in the garage at my house and waited to come up until saturday. Ryan had a Tuba audition up here at USU on Saturday, so we drove up with Megan and the couch and a tuba. Lets just say, it was a full car. Ryan had time to help me put the couch together before his audition.

Interior Design

This semester I decided to take an Interior Design class. On the first day of class, the professor walked in and informed us it wasn't an interior design class, but rather a Design class. She said sorry for the confusion and if we weren't interested in all aspects of design, to drop the class. She showed us the syllabus and I fell in love. I knew from the second I read the syllabus that this was going to be the BEST CLASS EVER!

So far we have looked at different architects and artists throughout history. We have looked at the elements of design (color, line texture....) I have loved every second of it!

The assignments in the class are quite different and I love the creative room that she gives us.

The first assignment was to create a famous person completely out of wire. So we were supposed to find a picture, trace it in one line and then use our sketch to mold our picture out of wire.

It didn't quite work. After trying to solder it and then welding it... We started from scratch with a different wire.

So after tons of work and my poor dad having to help me for HOURS, it was finished. And it is now on display in the Interior Design Building at USU.

Weekend in Boise

So for the long weekend, my roommate Bonnie took me home with her to Boise! We had so much fun! The drive to Boise wasn't as bad as I thought it would be.. but I had plenty of things to entertain me. Bonnie drove and I entertained pretty much the whole way! We made two stops. The first was to get gas. And the second was at a trucker stop because I just had to go to the bathroom... I'm sure you understand. Anyway, we walked into the truck stop/gas station/restaurant/lodge and walked past the creepy phone booths and upstairs to the bathrooms. They had one bathroom with 2 toilets all in the same room. OMG. whoever invented that obviously was thinking about moms with their kids, or maybe twins that needed to go at the same time. anyway, we did our thing and then as we were walking out, two truckers with suitcases walked by as they cat called and hollered, "you two are the best looking truckers i've ever seen." CREEPY...

So back in the car and on our way. We got to Bonnie's house in the late evening and her mom made us AMAZING steak sandwiches.

After dinner we did PEDICURES! WAY FUN!



Then her mom pulled out her pot of wax and we did wax on our hands and feet. It felt incredible. Its like a giant scentsy pot that you can play with and mom wont even get mad at you. It was super hard to hold a drink with our mits on so Bonnie's mom got us straws. which was seriously just as tricky.



The next morning we woke up and drove to a small air strip so Bonnie and Jenny could go skydiving! HOLY COW! anyway. we waited FOREVER in a non-heated dirty boy hangout building that they called a
"professional skydiving company"
only to find out that the weather wasn't optimal for jumping so to try our luck tomorrow.

So mom cheered us up by taking us to macaroni grill for lunch and then cheesecake factory! SOOOOOO YUMMY!!!!!!



After our afternoon on the town we came home and played wii and chilled. We watched the "Accidental Husband." Way CUTE!!! and then we called it a night.

Sunday we woke up and went out to the skydiving place for another try. It was a go! Bonnie got all geared up!



She got onto the plane...



and then 20 min later... She JUMPED!!!!!

10,000 feet later she landed safely on her butt!


We went home, had lunch and then went to the movie "Its Complicated." Not my favorite movie ever. but still way cute.
We finished the movie, came home, had dinner and then cooked for a few hours. we made dinners and then wrapped them and froze them so we could have easy dinner nights in Logan. We made lasagna, chicken enchiladas, chili and stuffed mushrooms.


We had enough breaks while cooking to tease Bonnie's brother in law Clint.
you see, he bought a car. but it looks like he actually got it at a circus auction. It is missing 12 clowns though...

So anyway, we put on our noses that we put together after the movie and went out to the car to take pictures.



and then we ambushed Clint with silly string and a air horn! So funny!

It was a really great trip! Thank you to the Green Family for making me feel so welcome! And thanks Bonnie for sharing your family with me!

events that defined 2009

In 10th grade, I started debate. After Christmas break, Ms. Hyer would have us write down a list of all of the big current events that happened the year before and then all of the big events that happened in our own lives. After we wrote it all down, we would have to give a speech on the events that defined our year.
Since i'm no longer in high school, i wanted to keep that tradition alive. I always thought it was a nice way to sum up the year.

2009.....

DANCES
in january there was Jr Prom at WX with Ryan. It was our first real dance together as a couple. way fun.





in April, we went to WX's Senior Ball. My dad was the DJ and it was at the capitol. It was the best dance EVER! thanks Ryan!




WX homecoming in September... yeah thats right... i totally super-seniored it.




SCHOOL
I got the T.H. Bell Scholarship which was super exciting!
I started an internship at IHC as an EKG tech. I learned a TON. and made a bunch of new friends.
Finished my last year of debate and as Debate VP.
Won 1st in state at HOSA and had the opportunity to go to nationals. I wasn't able to go because of my job..
And of course, GRADUATION!!!!!!!!




WORK
I had the BEST summer job EVER this year! I worked for Lagoon entertainment and LOVED IT! I really hope i get the chance to work there again!




and then for frightmares, I was a Witch! so much fun!



After summer ended...
I got my 1st apartment


and started college at USU!


oh yeah, and I LOVE my roommates.
seriously. i love them. thanks Bonnie, Rebecca, Brittney and Mckayla, you girls are great!


My family moved in October! we have always lived in the same house in kaysville. so it was hard to imagine moving. but i love our new home!



BIRTHS
I got to be there when my aunt Suzanne delivered her second baby, Oakley. It was an amazing experience. Thanks for letting me be there Suzanne!

DEATHS
In may, Kirsty Sargaent passed away. She fought a really tough battle with cancer. I am so happy I got to be a part of her life. I was able to help her out for a summer when she was receiving treatment. She was an incredible woman and anyone who knew her was forever changed for the better. we love you kirsty. thanks for the memories. thanks for sharing your love and life with us.

November. MY great Grandma Carma died. I had the opportunity to get her ready after she died. It was a special experience to have and i will always remember that.

and in december Scott left us. Scott was one of the most special people i have ever met. He was a friend to all and we all loved him. even my cousins remember him playing games with them. he was such a kind and gentle friend. I was just reading through all of the cards and notes that he wrote me over the years and it brought back so many happy memories. he will be missed greatly. i love you scott.

Christmas Eve Festivities

I started off this Christmas Eve by going to Ryan's family party. I had a fantastic time. They were so nice to include me and his Grandma Carol even let me play all of their traditional games! I had such a good time! It's been nice to date Ryan for long enough that we can spend parts of our holidays together! It was such a great party and everyone was so kind.

Every year for Christmas Eve since I can remember, we have gone to Grandma and Grandpa Porters house. We always play songs with Grandmas bells. And then we act out the Nativity Scene.
The last couple years though have been different. Everyone is married and has their own families so not as many people show up on Christmas Eve. We didn't go last year because my mom wanted to start our own traditions. This year though, we did go. Suzanne and her family were there and of course Grandma and Grandpa.
So as you can imagine it is hard to act out the nativity scene with only 6 people who could participate.


Grandpa read the Nativity Story, while Grandma played songs on the piano that matched the story.



Dad and Megan were Mary and Joseph..

And I was the one and only Wiseguy



We would have had more participants, but mom and MItchel were upstairs trying to decide if Mitchel should go to the ER. He did end up going after the Nativity scene. Mom and Dad took him. Don't worry though, he only has chemical burns in his esophagus from dry swallowing pills.
Aside from Mitchel's Emergency Room Visit, It was a great Christmas Eve. Thanks to everyone who was a part of it!
